Koenigsegg’s 1340bhp One:1 laps Suzuka
Old brake pads. An unfamiliar circuit. Sub-optimal fuel and aero. And yet somehow, the Koenigsegg One:1 hypercar has managed to set an (unofficial) lap record for a road car around Suzuka.
Yep, our favourite Swedish hypercar maestro, Mr Koenigsegg, has just released an on-board video of his track-attack special, the One:1, on a couple of laps around the fabled Japanese circuit.
It wasn't part of a timed attack run either. Company founder Christian von Koenigsegg just wanted to show off his new creation to "clients and partners in a more personal sense". As such, there was even a passenger on-board during the demonstration runs, with Koenigsegg factory driver Robert Serwanski behind the wheel.
They only had a half hour slot, in which they managed four ‘sessions', each session consisting of an out lap, a ‘fast' lap (but not full attack mode), and then an in-lap, before stopping to take on a new passenger.
"Our best recorded lap time in this half-hour slot was 2m 17.57s," says Koenigsegg. "This is from our own data-logging system, connected to the car on the day. It is not an official time and has no external standing."
Koenigsegg One:1 aims for Nürburgring record
The company however, did reference another unofficial Suzuka lap time for a production car, that being the Nissan GT-R, which apparently recorded a 2m 18.36s time.
"To have potentially beaten this time at our first outing," explains Koenigsegg, "while running a standard setup, with little exposure to the track beforehand, with a passenger inside the car during all laps and with brakes that had to be nursed a little throughout the session, was very encouraging indeed."
The One:1, don't forget, features a twin-turbocharged 5.0-litre V8 with 1340bhp, and has the capacity to accelerate from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and top out at a theoretical 273mph. More so, it boasts 600kg of downforce from that Le Mans-inspired rear wing, and was built to be fast, as well as agile.
So agile in fact, company founder Christian von Koenigsegg is planning an assault on the Nürburgring later this year. An assault that should result in a new lap record for road cars.
Get ready for the four-door Koenigsegg
Speaking to TopGear.com earlier this year, he confirmed: "We are ready to go. As soon as the weather permits we'll be at the ‘Ring regularly."
Is this lap at Suzuka the opening salvo in the One:1's track domination?
