Ferrari California news - Calfornia tunin’ - 2009
When we first saw the Ferrari California last summer, there was quite a debate in the office over whether the 2+2 folding hard-top was (a) a fine-looking machine or (b) a bit... blobby.
The consensus migrated towards (a), but German tuning firm Edo Competition evidently hailed from the (b) camp. The spannermen responsible for this hideous Porsche Cayenne and slightly better Enzo have taken it upon themselves to beef up the California, with definitely-not-nice consequences.
In fairness, it's a subtler effort than most aftermarket jobs. Nonetheless, those 21-inch black wheels aren't doing much for the California's lines, and we can't imagine Edo's promised ‘special interiors and lavish upholstery' will do much for the Cali's lovely cabin.
Power is up from the California's 4.3-litre V8 by 40bhp to a nice round 500bhp thanks to a recalibrated ECU and big exhaust system, though the 3.9-second 0-60mph time remains unchanged from the stock car.
There's an extra 3mph of top end speed, but we'll happily take the standard Cali's 193mph and proper wheels instead, ta.
If you're liking Edo's take on the California, you'll be happy to note that the company promises to ‘set no limits on our customers' imaginations'. Nice of them...
