Man shelters from record heatwave by idling G-Class all day for the air con

‘How else am I meant to survive climate change?’ asks man with no sense of irony

A man with no shame has taken refuge from the record UK temperatures by sitting in his Mercedes G-Class all day with the air con on full blast.

The 42-year-old executive from Cambridge took note of the Met Office’s extreme heat warning over the weekend, and decided to “play it safe” by working remotely from the second-gen G-Wagen he got on finance two years ago.

“When I read about Network Rail’s ‘do-not-travel’ advice in the Sunday Express, my mind was made up,” he said. “I don’t actually get the train to work, but, you know, it was either this or cruise up the A10 to the office at about 12mpg. If anything I’ve done the planet a favour.”

He added that he’d been able to dial in for his Monday meetings as normal, albeit having plugged his laptop into “dad’s old diesel generator” after discovering “the extension cable didn’t quite reach the house”.

“It was a bit noisy, but I didn’t even have to get out for lunch: I just ordered some sushi on Deliveroo. The bloke on the bike didn’t look too impressed when he got here though. Must’ve been the sweat.”

A neighbour, who asked not to be named, commented: “This is typical of him. I’ve passed on his address to a friend at the local Extinction Rebellion branch, hopefully they can spare someone to come round and glue themselves to that monstrosity.”
