George Miller to direct King Charles’ Christmas speech in 2024

Buckingham Palace hires Mad Max director to spice up the King’s speech next Christmas

Aids of King Charles have secured the services of Mad Max director George Miller to oversee the monarch's Christmas message in 2024.

Senior figures within the royal family believe the show - which was first broadcast in 1957 with previous host Queen Elizabeth II - would attract better ratings with a fresh format.

As such, Buckingham Palace has hired Miller to combine the King's traditional, goodwill monologue with the gritty, post-apocalyptic wasteland vibe of a lawless dystopian future.

Details are being closely guarded, but rumours suggest next year's speech will be delivered from the back of a bored-out V8 Interceptor moving across the King's Sandringham estate at speed, while being chased by a dozen monster trucks against a soundtrack of drumbeat and flame-spitting guitar.

Meanwhile the King himself will be suspended from a 20ft swinging pole as a horde of 4k camera drones track his flailing torso: Palace officials have insisted that the production values must "make The Crown look like a badly funded school play".

A cliffhanger ending - with Immortan Joe declaring total, inglorious rule over the British Isles - is being considered in the hope that viewers will then tune in for the Trooping of the Colour reboot next June.

A source close to the King said: “His Majesty is keen to do things differently, and what could be more different at Christmas than a quaint, festive address infused with Hollywood-style barbarism?

“This shows that the royal family is able to move with the times, and the sight of our head of state giving an altruistic sermon while penduluming around in an iron muzzle will transcend the Commonwealth.

“And if it crushes the Harry and Meghan doc on Netflix, then that’s just a bonus.”
