The Alpine Formula One team will leave the Alpine Formula One team at the end of the 2024 season, Alpine has confirmed.
Following a mass exodus of vastly experienced senior staff at the struggling F1 outfit over the past 12 months, including most recently one of its drivers, the team said it would sack itself in a bid to improve its overall performance.
“Continuing the ongoing restructure to improve our race pace and development, the Alpine Formula One team and the Alpine Formula One team have agreed to part ways at the end of the 2024 season,” the team said in a statement released today.
“We are enormously thankful to its efforts and would like to thank the Alpine Formula One team for its commitment to the Alpine Formula One team and wish it well for the future.
“Since 2021 we have gotten slower and gone backwards in the constructors’ standings as a team, and will look fondly on achieving 9th place in the current 2024 constructors’ standings together.
“The Alpine Formula One team will now look forward to completing the remaining races on the 2024 calendar with the Alpine Formula One team in pursuit of a shared goal: to avoid crashing into each other on 16 more circuits.”
Sources later confirmed someone had forgotten to turn the lights off at the now-empty Enstone factory.
