F1: let’s all play Maldonado Bingo!

We warned you a few weeks ago that Maldonado Bingo* was in development. Well, here it is.

The rules are simple: pick three options before the race, then sit back and watch the carnage unfold. Points are awarded for correctly guessing what happens to Pastor during the grand prix, with the person who scores the most points declared the winner.

Question is, do you go for a near certainty (Pastor driving off the track, for example) or plum for something more improbable (a podium finish, say) in the hope of collecting more points?

Anything could happen with our favourite Venezuelan behind the wheel of a 900bhp machine, although we'd advise you to keep form, weather, engine life and track size in mind when making your selection.

Here are some gratuitous stats to consider:

- Before Monaco 2015, Maldonado started 82 grands prix, not including one pre-race retirement in 2014.

- Of those 82 starts, Crashtor has retired 23 times. That's a DNF rating of 28 per cent.

- In his four and a bit years at Williams and Lotus, Maldonado has finished in the top ten on just eight occasions. His teammates, on the other hand, have picked up points 18 times in that period.

- Pastor does at least have one race win to his name, having claimed pole position and the chequered flag in Barcelona in 2012. It remains the only interesting edition of the Spanish GP.

This weekend, Formula 1 rolls into Monaco for what remains the most glamorous race of the calendar. Expect drama though as Maldonado's record in the principality is, um, especially colourful.

2011 - DNF after collision with Lewis Hamilton. Classified 18th

2012 - DNF after crash with Pedro de la Rosa. Had started last on the grid after practice session collision with Sergio Perez

2013 - DNF after crash with Max Chilton. Race was red-flagged as a result

2014 - DNS due to fuel pump failure before the race. Had only qualified 15th

To top all that off, Maldonado even received a lifetime driving ban in Monaco for injuring a marshal in a World Series race in 2005. The then 21-year-old was only allowed to compete again after his sponsors agreed to pay the marshal's medical fees. Crikey.
