The BMW M5 ‘Ring Taxi has crashed
This is the moment BMW's M5 suffered a rather hairy moment of uncontrollable oversteer at the Nürburgring... and ended up face first in a barrier.
Footage has emerged of the fabled M5 ‘Ring taxi showing passengers what ‘fast' looks like around the world's scariest forest circuit, just before careering off into the side.
For those unaware, you can pay BMW €225 for up to three passengers, for the chance to climb aboard the M5 and let a professional helmsperson drive you very quickly around all 73 corners and 20.832km of one of the world's most challenging circuits.
They've been doing it for some time, too - since 1986, the BMW Ring Taxi has taken more than 90,000 passengers around the circuit, clocking up more than 650,000km and 30,000 laps.
Thankfully, it appears nobody was seriously injured in this accident, with the drivers behind managing to slow to a halt, just before the M5 backs gingerly out of the barrier slowly. We suspect however, that the M5's 560bhp, 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 lurking under the bonnet may have had its pride dented.
It's proof, kids, that the Nürburgring - even in the hands of a tame taxi driver - is not a welcoming, cuddly, comforting blanket of a circuit. We know this because somebody else has compiled a short video of ‘Ring crashes, and it makes for sobering viewing.
