Meet the super-rare McLaren ‘One of Seven’

Published: 26 Feb 2015

This is the new McLaren 650S MSO ‘One of Seven', built through a collaboration of McLaren's own Special Ops division, the Dörr Group, and a man named Markus Storck who initiated the idea.

As the name suggests, it's a special edition 650S, and one of just seven Marcus and MSO plan on building. The triumvirate came together in order to create a mobile, automotive ‘sculpture', and one look at the rather dandy matt bronze paintwork would suggest it's been a success.

So, at its core it's simply a McLaren 650S Spider, and thus comes complete with a mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, with 641bhp and 669lb ft of torque. This means a 0-62mph time of 3.0s, and a top speed of 204mph. "I drove the car and it really is the best, I love the way British cars are built," he says.

Then comes the MSO/Storck treatment. A very special paint mixture is applied, developed in association with MSO's head of paint - a man nicknamed ‘Merlin', we're reliably informed - which took three months to perfect. Storck told TopGear.com that this particular mix was created "to help accentuate better the shape of the 650S more".

It's then applied, but only lightly - some seven or eight layers are put on the 650S One of Seven - and the end result is a car that appears bronze in daytime "like a sculpture", and brown in the evening.

And thanks to the use of specific McLaren matt carbon fibre optional parts there's an overall weight reduction of around 40kg from a standard 650S. "I didn't want to create a tuner car," says Storck, "I want all the parts that are listed in the factory.

"Then you have a factory number and can get it replaced if necessary," he added.

Things like the carbon fibre airbrake, engine covers, front splitter, side intakes, inner rear bumper, wheel arch liners, mirror arms, side skirts, bonnet, vented rear deck, diffuser, and even the wiper cover.

There are also MSO-spec super lightweight wheels in a "stealth finish", lots of CF for the interior, carbon fibre seats backs and panels, lots of leather and a Meridian sound system upgrade.

As mentioned, just seven will be built, and two have already been sold in Germany, at a cost of 399,000 euros (inclusive of 19 per cent VAT), which is around £290k. It also looks like the remaining five will be snapped up pretty soon, too.

"There is a lot of interest," Storck says, "and we have already received some very specific enquiries."

Have a click through the pics and let us know what you think. He's already working on another One of Seven project too, so stay tuned for more news...
