Indian Jones news - Indy's ride – 2008
If the latest Indiana Jones flick has whetted your appetite for transcontinental archaeological adventures - rather than merely making you feel a bit sorry for aging film stars - here's your ideal ride...
This is the very car that featured in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, up for sale on eBay for a mighty $2.5 million.
Yes, it's a lot of cash, but remember that desert chase scene? With the Nazis? And the truck? And the horses?
The Mercedes-style convertible has a fair back story too: it was created in 1980 by a Coventry car builder from a Jag Mk9 chassis and Mk5 body for use in the Raiders chase scenes, and was driven from England to Tunisia in time for the start of the movie.
Fitted with a 285bhp DOHC engine, it'll reach 60mph in a Fuhrer-baiting 6.8 seconds. Best of all, the car still has all of its authentic 'period details' - dents down the passenger-side bodywork from impacting the truck in the chase scene, and even the cigarette that the Bad Nazi stubs out in the rear ashtray.
The Jonesmobile also comes complete with all its original paperwork, but you'll have to buy your own Fedora hat and whip.
Talking of bizarre eBay sales, you wouldn't want to put out a cigarette in the back of this.
