All-new Rolls-Royce ‘Wraith’ announced

It's all gone a bit Lord of the Rings today: Rolls-Royce has announced a very precious new model, one that will rule them all. It's called the ‘Wraith', and it will become the most powerful Rolls-Royce model... in the world.

The company today confirmed the news that it will produce "the most powerful Rolls-Royce that has ever played host to the famous Spirit of Ecstasy figurine". That's the smoky presence in the picture above, and unfortunately, it's the only visual information we have at present.

Rolls-Royce tells us the new Wraith will showcase "the boldest design and the most dramatic performance", and promise a new benchmark in the ultra-luxury segment. Bear in mind the unbridled luxury you get in a modern Rolls, and you have some idea of what the company is aiming for.

That name dips into the Rolls history books too; it uses the famous moniker of the 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith, a car that featured a 4.3-litre straight-six engine producing around 30bhp. Naturally, this new Wraith will use something much, much more powerful, considering the Phantom makes 453bhp from its 6.7-litre V12, and the Ghost makes 563bhp from a 6.6-litre V12.

Rolls is being awfully coy about exactly what will power the new Wraith. Perhaps some form of sorcery from Mount Doom? We're promised drips of information ahead of the full-blown public reveal at the Geneva Motor Show in March. So here, we throw the ball over to you good folk.
