Gemballa Mirage GT Gold Edition - All that glitters…

Published: 05 Aug 2009

We can’t quite put our finger on it. This, er, thing – the Mirage GT Gold Edition from German tuning house Gemballa – reminds us of something, but we can’t quite figure out what it is.

The Mirage GT is, as you might have guessed, a heavily modified Porsche Carrera GT, replete with LOTS OF CARBON FIBRE and EXTRA POWER.

About 670bhp of power, to be precise, courtesy of a tuned-up version of Porsche’s 5.7-litre V10 – around 60bhp more than the stock Carrera GT. That’ll shove the Mirage GT to 62mph in just 3.7 seconds, an improvement of a couple of tenths.

As you might have noticed, there’s quite a lot of gold on board. Gold on the wheels, the sills, the mirrors and even the engine bay. More gold than that infamous ‘How Much Jewellery Can You Wear In One Go?’ contest between Mr T and Bobby George.

The cost of all this gold and fastness? Around £400,000, not including the donor Carrera GT, which you’ll have to find for yourself.

Covered in gold? Ambitiously priced? We’ve just figured out what the Mirage GT reminds us of. Uncanny, eh?

Oh, and here's a reminder of Gemballa's now infamous attempt to 'improve' the Cayenne. Yuck.
