This is TG magazine’s new rally livery

Published: 02 Oct 2014

So it’s official: Top Gear’s i20 rally car will look awesome. In fact it could have looked awesome in many different ways, given the sheer volume and quality of entries we had in for our competition to design a livery for the mighty little Hyundai.

But after many office arguments among our judging panel (in which I did repeatedly point out that I’m the one driving it and so please listen to my opinion), our chosen winner... is the above design from Shabaz Bashir.

It was the crazy paving effect that really swung the judges’ vote – that and the mirror finish that we reckon might look the business reflecting back the trees and scenery during Wales Rally GB. Until it’s covered in mud, that is…

Anyway, work starts to apply the outer reaches of Shabaz’s imagination to the outer skin of our rally car next week. We’ve called in the services of materials specialist 3M to help us turn his design into reality. We’ll keep you posted on how that progresses.

In the meantime, above you’ll find a gallery of some of the liveries that people entered. At this stage we need to give a big hand to everyone who entered and did such a cracking job:  we had chequered flags, Union Jacks, Welsh dragons, crayons, camouflage, Stig and one that just had Jeremy shouting ‘POWER’ down the side. Enjoy the entries – and mentally give everyone who entered a pat on the back.
