Used small electric cars: eight of the best
A selection of cars from the small aisle in the used electric car market

Honda e
Honda's tiny EV was impossibly cute, beautifully engineered and crammed with tech. They literally don't make 'em anymore, so grab yourself a (much cheaper) future classic in the classifieds.

A great choice for anyone wanting a stylish supermini. The all-electric 500 is far better than its older combustion-engined sibling.
Renault Zoe
The second-gen version of this best-seller makes a sensible secondhand buy. It boasts better battery performance, a quality build and (fairly) rapid charging capability. Plus, used Zoe prices start from as little as £3,000.

The old e-208's combination of range, easy personality, value and surprising desirability made it a good new buy; even better now that it's up for reasonable money as a used car. Perfect time to, um, *claw* yourself a bargain.
Volkswagen e-Up
Almost everything we like about the Up, but unpretentiously electric. Could be the ideal first EV, which now makes it an ideal first used EV. And if you don't like the VW badge, there's always the matching Seat Mii Electric and the Skoda Citigo-e iV.
BMW i3
One of the most complete, cleverest and best thought-through electric cars of them all. Used prices kick off from around £8,000, which - considering what you're getting - is a bargain.
Mini Electric
With a new all-electric Mini now unveiled and soon to be on sale, the first-gen (forget 2009's Mini E) should be a decent used buy.

Renault's gloriously tiny 2012 diversion from reality was genius, and as proved by stuff like the Citroen Ami, ahead of its time. Presents some obvious security issues. No matter, because it's cool... and quite rare. Happy hunting.
