Dakar's rest day is an excuse to build Audi's awesome Dakar Lego car

Turn your house into a rally raid stage and pretend to be Carlos Sainz with this brick kit

Given that one Dakar Rally is the equivalent of competing in 13 Daytona 500s, by the time it gets to the halfway point, you’re more than ready for a break. Luckily, the two-week non-stop rally has one rest day thrown in. But it’s not really a rest day at all.

On Saturday’s so-called 'rest day', all three of Audi’s RS Q e-trons are stripped down and rebuilt by the dedicated team of mechanics. That includes the complex drivetrains, dampers and the vast array of ancillaries. Once everything has been put back together again, what you’re left with at the end is, basically, a new car ready for another week of torturous racing. It needs to be, as this year’s drivers are heading into a wave of arduous, potentially car-killing stages until the end of the race in Yanbu on January 19th.

But don’t be sad because there’s no racing today. Instead, why don’t you join the team building cars from scratch by creating your own RS Q e-tron? Just in miniature, brick form. Well, thanks to Lego you can do just that with the Audi RS Q e-tron from LEGO Technic™.

The 914-piece build will keep you occupied for hours and incorporates realistic details like individual suspension on each wheel to mimic the real Dakar car. It also features a new Technic wheel element created especially for the model to reflect the full-sized Audi wheel design. And there’s even a full livery and sticker kit to make it look race-ready.

However, unlike the real Dakar Rally, once it’s built you don’t need to travel to Saudi Arabia to put it to the test. Your rally stage can be literally anywhere – from your local park to your home. Using the CONTROL+ mobile app, you can drive Audi RS Q e-tron forwards, backwards and steer the shrunken Dakar racecar around the garden and across the carpet, all while avoiding skirting boards, big sticks and shoe racks.

So what are you waiting for? Start your own Dakar adventure today!
