Big adventures await in the award-winning VW ID. Buzz 7-seat

Find out why this smart, spacious and comfortable all-electric MPV is turning heads and changing minds

The appeal of an MPV is obvious: they can get a lot of people – and stuff – to somewhere fun as comfortably and efficiently as possible. Of course, if you’re the one doing the driving, you could be forgiven for not exactly relishing the idea of sluggish acceleration and a turning circle the size of a small planet.

But that’s partly why the refreshing VW ID. Buzz 7-seat scooped MPV of the Year in the BBC TopGear.com Awards 2024. Yes, it is more spacious than the ID. Buzz 5-seat, yes it has better range, but above all, it genuinely makes you look forward to being behind the wheel.

Space for days

The ID. Buzz 7-seat offers the practicality and capacity of a minivan with the performance and appearance of a family SUV. At almost five metres long, the ID. Buzz 7-seat maximises both space and flexibility.

There’s plenty of legroom and headroom for all seven passengers, but if there’s only five of you, you then have the option to fold the rear seats down to fit even more cargo than the already cavernous 1,121-litre boot can hold.

Enjoy the ride

A side-on view of the sliding passenger door on a Volkswagen ID. Buzz 7-seat | Top Gear Awards 2024 Winner This MPV is a real pleasure to drive, with plenty of grunt to haul a family-sized payload. Its 282bhp motor can manage 0-60 in a solid 7.9 seconds, with a top speed of up to 90mph. It also corners impressively smoothly and boasts a remarkably tight turning circle of just 11 metres.

You know the way you feel at the wheel is just as important as the physics though, and the good news is, thanks to an upright windscreen flanked by tall quarterlights, you can expect a blissfully panoramic experience. The low driving position and armrests on either side add to the cosy vibe, while the 12.9-inch infotainment is easily visible without feeling obtrusive.

What’s inside counts

You and your passengers will find a wealth of thoughtful design touches to make every journey feel lighter and brighter – none more so than the optional Smart Glass electric panoramic sunroof. Elsewhere, you can tell every piece of in-car tech has been designed with ultimate comfort in mind, whether that’s the cabin-encompassing sound system or optional features such as matrix LED lights, 30-colour mood lighting and – get this – electric massage seats.
